LatAAGAMAN: Nightingale Enters  Ninety

इक ऐसी ‘आग‘ लगी ‘मन‘ में,

जीने भी न दे, मरने भी न दे…

With ‘Fire’ (‘आग) in ‘Mind’ (मन), at the tender age of 13, Lata Mangeshkar embarked on a musical journey. Her ‘AAGAMAN‘ (Arrival) ignited a sureeli scintillating story from immense struggle to everlasting success.

Circa 1947: The epochal year saw the country’s independence from the British rule. The same year, Lata Mangeshkar made her foray in to the realm of playback and enslaved the entire nation with her honey sweet captivating voice.

Within a span of three years (1947 ~ 49), she came, she crooned and she conquered the music world with now immortal songs of great maestros like:

Datta Davjekar (Aap Ki Seva Mein)

Anil Biswas (Anokha Pyar ~ Gajre ~ Girls School ~ Jeet ~ Ladli),

Khemchand Prakash (Mahal ~ Ziddi),

Ghulam Haider (Majboor ~ Padmini),

Naushad (Andaz ~ Dulari)

C Ramchandra (Namoona ~ Patanga ~ Sipahiya)

Husanlal-Bhagatram (Badi Behan ~ Bansariya ~ Jal Tarang ~ Sawan Bhadon),

Shyam Sundar (Bazar ~ Lahore),

Vasant Desai (Narsinh Avtar ~ Uddhar)

Hansraj Behl (Chakori ~ Zevarat)

Ghulam Mohammed (Paras ~ Shair)

Shankar-Jaikishan (Barsaat)

The super success of the three mega films: Andaz, Barsaat and Mahal did wonders to her budding career. It was with ‘Aayega aanewala’, she arrived in a big way and consolidated her position as the numero uno singer and undisputed Melody Queen of the Hindi film music world.

Her crooning is always her ‘calling’. Her tunefulness always keeps signifying the Call of the Divine. Many kaals later too, she remains the Eternal Caller and the tunes remain the Caller Tune:
